About Beyond Barriers Counseling and Consulting

Hi, I’m Chélynn!

As a therapist, my approach to therapy is collaborative, strengths based, and solution oriented. This means that I work with you to bring out the strengths within yourself to better manage or solve the problem you are experiencing. I also bring a multicultural lens to therapy that helps Black, Indigenous, and people of color navigate the oppression they may be experiencing as a racially minoritized person.

What You Can Expect

The type of environment I create in session is one that is warm and affirming. Sessions with me are a judgment-free zone where clients can let their guard down and process their emotions in a way that feels most authentic for them. I work with my clients to create therapy goals that lead them to a life where the problems they experience are not the focus of their lives.

And of course, the important stuff.

I received my MA in Marriage and Family Therapy and a certificate in Systemic Multicultural Counseling from Appalachian State University. While there, a big emphasis of my training was on being a socially just and affirming therapist for anyone who needed it. I continued my education at Florida State University where I received a PhD in Marriage and Family and honed my specializations in helping emerging adults navigate life stressors and working with Black individuals and couples who are experiencing stress, anxiety, or depression.
